Munich Germany

Where tradition and culture is rooted in everything

Authentic and unforced are the only words I can use to describe Munich. The city and people are proud of the beauty and culture, letting visitors feel and explore it for themselves. As Germany’s third-largest city, you would expect Munich to be chaotic and individualistic. That could not be further from the truth, with Munich being one of the most community-based cities I have ever been to.

The history in Munich is a reason to visit alone. Every corner you round feels like it holds a story it wants to share. I highly recommend taking a walking tour to understand the significance this city has in world history. Munich is the perfect blend of character, charm, and passion. Nothing is done halfway in this city, as seen through the extensive parks, museums, restaurants, and community.

Dont’t Skip These Experiences

Beer Gardens

The beer garden that really encompasses Munich’s essence is Hirschgarten. Set in a lush green space, these gardens are massive, communal, and perfectly no-nonsense. You grab what you want, find a seat, and suddenly you’re part of a conversation you didn’t plan on having. In one afternoon you get to experience what the locals have been doing for hundreds of years, all while meeting characters from all quadrants of the city.

Weißwurstfrühstück

In Munich breakfast is the backbone to culture, community, and tradition. Weißwurstfrustueck, translating to white sausage breakfast, has been a part of Bavarian culture for decades. This meal consists of white sausage paired with sweet mustard, a pretzel, and of course, a traditional wheat beer such as Paulaner. Today, this breakfast is usually consumed before a big event such as a football match or Oktoberfest.

Oktoberfest

Of course, the world comes to Munich for Oktoberfest. It’s loud, traditional, energetic, messy, international, and surprisingly still structured. Even though the festival brings millions of visitors, the heart of it remains Bavarian with folk music, endless steins of beer, roast chicken, shared tables, and rows of tents to explore. This celebration is one of the most electric cultural experiences on the planet that everyone should experience at least once in their life.

A Game Day You Will Never Forget

Whether you love sports or couldn’t care less, a match featuring FC Bayern München at Allianz Arena is unforgettable. Fans sing and jump for the full 90 minutes, collectively uplifting the team and atmosphere. For the total experience, go into the ultras sections and join the locals in supporting their favourite team.

Buildings, Parks, and a Lot of Wandering In-Between

When you walk through Marienplatz, you can feel the detail and passion that Munich’s architecture has. The Neues Rathaus (City Hall) towers over you, allowing you to feel the history in the air. Munich is home to many world-class museums, making it a place for every type of tourist.

Just minutes away, the greenery takes over. Englischer Garten is a calm and shockingly big park in the middle of the city. People picnic, bike, surf a river wave, or just lie in the grass for hours. No agenda, just enjoying nature and time together.

Where to Eat

Hofbräuhaus München – Tradition and History in One Stop

If you want a true München experience, be sure to stop at the Hofbräuhaus. This restaurant is not just famous for its history, but also for the traditional food and beverages it serves. You are promised a Bavarian feel and lots of energy surrounding you.

Augustiner Bräustuben – Beer Worth The Visit

Augustiner produces one of the best beers in Munich, but it is also the perfect place to get a Weißwurstfrühstück. Surrounded by classic Bavarian decor, you will not be disappointed with this stop.

Viktualienmarkt – Outdoor Market

If you love trying a variety of food and seeing local products, you cannot miss this. The open-air market is full of fresh meat, dairy, and products of all kinds. Walk along the stalls and see all they have to offer, or sit down at Munich’s most central beer garden.

The Memory I’m Packing With Me

Munich is the kind of city that tells you stories but also creates them for you. The beer gardens are chaotic or calm depending on your table. Breakfast can last three hours or 5 minutes at a local bakery. Parks feel endless. Buildings feel like a storybook. Sports feel unifying, not loud. It’s international, but rooted. Busy, but not frantic. Traditional, but oddly refreshing.
